We provide a service to on-sell and upcycle clothes as well as advice on how to choose better and care for your clothes to be more sustainable and minimise your impact on the planet whilst still looking great.
If you have garments in your wardrobe you aren’t wearing you can contact us to arrange free local pick up, sending to us, or alternatively dropping off any clothes that you want to sell or modify. We are based in SE4, London. We are happy to make virtual appointments to look at items to see if they are suitable or you can send photos. We can also discuss more personalised wardrobe styling and sorting appointments or quality assessing new purchases.
All items for sale will be assessed, repaired, re-cleaned if necessary, pressed, photographed, measured and accurately described. We have the skills and equipment to make sure that your garments are marketed and sold looking their best to stand out, achieve a high price and last longer.
Initially, as an incentive to stock our shop, we will be launching with a lower commission rate for selling. As we will be selling on different platforms we will also factor in their margins and the cost of repairing or specialist cleaning, if needed. Ideally, we would prefer to receive items freshly laundered. Because we are all about promoting quality, we won’t be selling items with bad pilling, deodorant marks or irreparable damage. Although we are still happy to look at items with problems as we have a number of solutions for fixing things. Check out our articles for what can go wrong with garments and also some of the things we that can be done to improve them.
All items will be sold on a sale on behalf basis. Because we are online, we are happy to keep the clothes for a much longer period of time until they sell (unlike some dress agencies). Whilst we are happy initially to sell different price points, we see most of our success in the mid-market where fabrics tend to be better quality and styles less trend driven. The luxury secondhand market seems to be very well catered for and we haven’t the experience to spot a good knock off from a genuine item. We are happy though to take more high-end garments where repairs or remodelling are needed. The sort of brands we think will sell better and fit with our own style are Other Stories, Arket, Cos, Whistles, Jigsaw, Sandro, Maje, Equipment, B&sh, Reiss, Uniqlo, Zara, Massimo Dutti, J Crew to name just a few. We are also happy to receive donations of lower value items that are still wearable and fit with our look. If you want to just drop off what you no longer wear, we are able to sort them, and if you want give any items, that won’t be suitable for us to sell, to charity or for recycling.
Initially we are launching online with womenswear, but post virus, or when life seems safer, we want to offer our experience both in-store and online, and to incorporate menswear.
Once we have built up enough stock you will be able to buy directly from our online website store. In the meantime, items can be purchased from our Vinted store or you can contact us if you want to purchase anything directly from us or arrange to try on any items we are selling.
What sets us apart is that we are offering a personalised shopping experience for secondhand clothes. Sizing has become more erratic over the years with many brands engaging in vanity sizing whereby garments are labelled smaller so that the wearer feels better to be purchasing a smaller size. In addition to this there are so many variables in manufacturing that can change the fit such as fabrics shrinking or stretching and incorrect seam allowances being taken. On most resale sites it’s very hard to get an idea if a garment will fit or suit whereas our aim is to make it easier and safer to buy clothes online. You can reference our article on how to work out if the sizes will be good for you by looking at them against your body measurements or by seeing how they compare with your favourite fitting items. You can also message us for help to decide if something will fit you. We’re hoping once we fine tune our model to be able to share it with other secondhand stores as we think it is something that is essential for making used clothing appeal to a much wider audience. Our view of the current secondhand market is that it is concentrated on millennials who have a much more relaxed approach to dressing and the more expensive high-end market. We feel our new model is even more relevant in these times where you can no longer try clothes on in-store. Sales in secondhand stores are reportedly down at least 25% at a time when there is a surplus of clothes. So many of us have been having wardrobe clear outs over lockdown. By using our service to sell, you are hopefully helping to not only get your garments to someone who will keep wearing them but also enabling us to fine-tune a new model for selling secondhand clothes to keep them out of landfill.
